Sickness and Absence

Please inform the school

It is important to inform the school if your child is going to be absent. On the first day of your child’s illness, telephone the school to tell them that your child will be staying at home. The school will ask about the nature of the illness and how long you expect the absence to last. If it becomes clear that your child will be away for longer than expected, phone the school as soon as possible to explain this.

Sickness – ’48 hour rule’

If your child has a stomach bug, sickness and/or diarrhoea, then they should remain off school until 48 hours after the last ’bout’ to help prevent the spread of infection. However, if your child has an isolated incident of vomiting or has suffered from travel sickness, then they should remain at home before returning to school the next day, but only if they are well enough.

In making this decision, we ask parents to consider the other children and staff, as we try to combat the spread of infection that can travel quickly through the school.
